Travis and Williamson County Map Updates
The Letter of Final Determination went out to all communities in Travis and Williamson Counties March 26, 2008. This means that their maps will become effective six months later, which will be September 26, 2008. Communities are required to adopt the new maps by September 26, 2008. Although Texas has an automatic adoption clause, communities need to make sure the proper language is in their court orders or ordinances. Thus, every community is encouraged to adopt a new court order or ordinance at this time. This is an excellent time to review higher standards to include in floodplain development regulations. Model Ordinances and Higher Standards samples can be found on the State NFIP Coordinator’s website at www.twdb.state.tx.us.
Ordinance workshops have been scheduled for both counties:

TCRFC begins update to Hazard Mitigation Action Plan
The Texas Colorado River Floodplain Coalition (TCRFC) has issued draft Proposed Amendment to add 31 new mitigation actions to the July 14, 2004 Hazard Mitigation Action Plan for the Lower Colorado River Basin entitled, “Creating a Disaster Resistant Lower Colorado River Basin.” The new mitigation actions are proposed as a result of heavy storms and rains which soaked Texas in the summer 2007, resulting in Presidential Disaster Declaration D R-1709-TX, affecting seventy-seven counties in Texas, including many in the Lower Colorado River basin. This disaster event provided updated information on the extent of the flood risk and the specific actions needed to mitigate that risk.

As FEMA continues to update the Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs) for the nation, Coalition members can track the status of mapping projects in their counties on the TCRFC webpage. Click on the "FEMA Mapping Updates in TCRFC Counties" link on the right to see more.
To view floodplain maps and other basin mapping data, go to the TCRFC Interactive Mapping Service (TIMS), a web-based service is designed to deliver maps, track Letters of Map Change (LOMCs) and support public outreach. Take a look at http://tims.lcra.org.
